Appointment to the Federal Court of Australia

The Hon Mark Dreyfus KC MP
Media Release

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Graeme Hill SC as a Judge of the Federal Court.

Mr Hill will commence on 2 April 2025.

Mr Hill was admitted as a barrister and solicitor to the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory in 1993. In 2007, Mr Hill signed the Victorian Bar Roll and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2021. At the Bar, Mr Hill specialised in complex administrative and public law issues including constitutional law, migration law and native title.

To be eligible for appointment as a Judge of a federal court, a person must have been enrolled as a legal practitioner of the High Court or a Supreme Court of a state or territory for at least five years.

Mr Hill’s appointment followed an open call for expressions of interest. All applications were considered by an advisory panel comprised of eminent individuals.

On behalf of the Australian Government, I congratulate Mr Hill on his appointment and thank him for his willingness to serve the Court and the people of Australia.
