Expressions of Interest invited for the Federal Court of Australia
The Australian Government is calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified people interested in appointment as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia.
This process demonstrates the Government’s ongoing commitment to transparent and merit-based judicial appointments, diversity in the judiciary, and the provision of a trusted federal judicial system.
The process will be advertised nationwide and used to fill emerging vacancies.
I will also be engaging with key legal bodies to encourage applications from qualified individuals.
Process for expressions of interest
To be eligible for appointment as a Judge of a federal court, a person must have been enrolled as a legal practitioner of the High Court or a Supreme Court of a state or territory for at least five years.
An advisory panel will be formed to evaluate candidates and will develop a standing merit pool of eligible candidates to be considered for emerging vacancies.
The panel will only assess expressions of interest submitted via the Attorney-General’s Department website.
People who have previously expressed an interest and would like to be again considered must lodge a new expression of interest.
Those who wish to be considered for the next evaluation should register their interest before 12:00PM (AEST) Friday 30 August 2024.
For further information, visit the Attorney-General's Department website.
