This week I will visit Washington DC for high level meetings with senior members of the Biden Administration.

Australia and the United States have a deep and unwavering partnership. Together, our national security and law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to keep our communities safe from terrorism, tackle serious and organised crime and to protect our most vulnerable from exploitation.

I am committed to deepening the cooperation between our two countries on key national security and criminal justice priorities, including the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and the challenge of end to end encryption.

During my three day visit I will meet with US Attorney General Merrick B Garland, Deputy Chief of Staff to the US President, Bruce Reed, Chair of the House Investigative Committee Representative Mike Turner, and Director of the US Copyright Office Shira Perlmutter.

I will also visit the Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Virginia and participate in various discussions with leading US experts on artificial intelligence.

Senator Katy Gallagher will be acting Attorney-General and Cabinet Secretary until my return to Australia on Saturday, 3 February 2024.
