Have your say on Australia’s next Open Government National Action Plan

The Hon Michelle Rowland MP
Media Release

The Albanese Government has opened public consultation to shape Australia's Fourth Open Government National Action Plan (NAP4).

Building on the important work delivered under Australia's Third National Action Plan 2024 – 2025, NAP4 will establish concrete commitments to advance open government and public sector integrity for implementation from January 2027 to December 2028.

The proposed commitments for inclusion in the NAP4 have been developed in consultation with Australia's Open Government Forum, which consists of civil society and government representatives.

The Government is now seeking feedback on these commitments, which include:

  • delivering Australia's first national media literacy strategy
  • strengthening youth engagement in government decision-making
  • enhancing transparency of corporate ownership to build integrity and trust and reduce the risk of financial crime and corruption
  • strengthening civic participation through collaborative design of model government engagement processes
  • enhancing transparency of AI and digital accessibility
  • strengthening Commonwealth fraud and corruption control frameworks
  • improving access to government information and communications for people with disability.

Feedback gathered through this consultation process will inform the priority and composition of final commitments included in the Plan.

Further information, including the consultation paper and details on how to make a submission, is available on the Attorney-General's Department Consultation hub.

Submissions are open until 6 November 2026.
