Statement on the resignation of the Hon Paul Brereton AM RFD SC

The Hon Paul Brereton AM RFD SC has tendered his resignation as Commissioner of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), effective 6 July 2026.

The Government thanks Commissioner Brereton for his leadership, service, and contributions to the NACC, particularly as its inaugural Commissioner.

Commissioner Brereton has served our country as the Assistant Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force, as a Judge of the NSW Court of Appeal, and as a Major General in the Australian Defence Force Reserves.

A merit-based process will commence to appoint a new Commissioner of the NACC.
