Albanese Government announces 40 appointments to the Administrative Review Tribunal

The Albanese Government has appointed five Judicial Deputy Presidents and 35 General Members to the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) for various terms.

Established by the Government in 2024, the ART is a fully independent body responsible for reviewing decisions affecting the lives of Australians.

The Honourable Justice Berna Collier, the Honourable Justice Ian Jackman and the Honourable Timothy McEvoy have been reappointed as Judicial Deputy Presidents for an additional two-year term. The Honourable Justice Roger Derrington and the Honourable Justice Alister McNab have been appointed as new Judicial Deputy Presidents for five-year terms.

The five Judicial Deputy Presidents will contribute their extensive experience and expertise to enhance the capacity of the ART to consider matters. Each Judicial Deputy President was appointed in accordance with section 206 of the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024.

The 35 General Member appointments will also help ensure all cases continue to be heard fairly, effectively and efficiently while ensuring the ART’s work remains accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of all parties.

Each General Member was appointed in accordance with section 208 of the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024, and were assessed as suitable for appointment by an independent assessment panel in accordance with the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024 and Administrative Review Regulations 2024.
