I am pleased to announce Ms Elizabeth Raper SC has been appointed as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Ms Raper has been appointed to the Sydney Registry to fill the vacancy as a result of the retirement of the Hon Justice Geoffrey Flick on 18 October 2021. She will commence on 2 May 2022. Ms Raper was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1999. She was appointed Senior Counsel in 2019.

On behalf of the Australian Government, I congratulate Ms Raper on her appointment and thank her for her willingness to serve the people of Australia as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Ms Elizabeth Raper Sc

Ms Raper graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1996 and with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1998, both from the University of Sydney.

Ms Raper began her career as an associate to the Hon Justice Paul Munro in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission. From 1999 to 2005, Ms Raper was an associate, and then progressed to a senior associate at Baker and McKenzie. Since 2005, Ms Raper has been an adjunct lecturer and then adjunct senior lecturer at the University of Sydney. Ms Raper has also co-authored two editions of the legal text Discrimination Law and Practice.
