Appointment of Commonwealth King’s Counsel

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Andrew Buckland as Commonwealth King’s Counsel.

Appointment as Commonwealth King’s Counsel recognises advocates and practitioners with significant experience, and outstanding skills and expertise, in Commonwealth law.

Mr Buckland is Chief General Counsel at the Australian Government Solicitor. Mr Buckland is recognised for his expertise in constitutional law, statutory interpretation, administrative law, executive power, and federal jurisdiction issues.

Mr Buckland has appeared for the Commonwealth in over 100 constitutional cases before the High Court and other superior courts, including many of the most significant and high‑profile matters for the Commonwealth over the last two decades. He has also been appointed from time to time to act as Solicitor-General.

I congratulate Mr Buckland on his appointment and look forward to his significant and ongoing contribution in the provision of legal services to the Commonwealth.
